How do I find a book?
 
You can use the search field on the home page to search by author, title, description or key work. More search options are available in the Advance Search feature including ISBN, Signed and First Edition.
You can also browse the available books by categories: Simply select _______ on the home page
 
How do I place an order?
 
Simply find the book you wish to purchase and select “add to shopping cart” and when finished adding items to the shopping cart select Checkout and follow the instructions.
 
What condition are your used books in?
 
BookMarx prides itself in providing accurate descriptions. Each book is individually assessed and an accurate unique description is written for each listing. A significant number of books have pictures posted of the actual book being sold. If there is not a picture simple send us an email ([email protected]) with the title of the book you are interested in and we will send you a picture. Over the last fifteen years we have received hundreds of comments from customers who thanks because the book they received is in BETTER condition than they expected based on the description
 
What is an ISBN?
 
ISBN is an acronym for International Standard Book Number. They became a “standard” in the early 1970’s. An ISBN is either a ten- or thirteen-digit code used to identify a book. You can find the ISBN on the back of a book near the barcode or on the copyright page. Each book has its own unique ISBN.

Do you accept book donations?
 
Yes, at any time you have books that you would prefer to see recycled, reused, reread instead of being carelessly tossed aside we will always accept them as donations
 
Do you buy books?
 
Yes, we also buy books but please understand that the used book business is highly competitive and used books do not sell for much on-line or in the store unless they are very recently published or have a very sustained and collectable value. Most older books do not have a collectible value. However, if you happen to have such a book we will offer you a fair wholesale price.
It has been our experience over the past 15 years in the book business that when we buy books approximately (on average) 60% of them never resell – ever. It is very hard to know which 60% are the ones that will not sell which means we factor that into the amount we offer.
 
 

Customer Service 

How do I cancel my order?
 
Please call us at 740-282-6100 within 12-24 hours of placing your order. We ship out all orders within 24 hours – so the sooner the better.
 
Damaged or incorrect items
 
It the book you ordered is either not the one you received, is not in the condition described or damaged in transit, send us an email at [email protected] or call 740-282-6100 as soon as possible and we will make arrangements with you to assure your ultimate satisfaction.
 
Missing items
 
We use tracking numbers on all our shipments. We try to send you these number after shipment but if you cannot find the email we sent contact us and we will provide it to you. If the tracking indicates your book is lost you will receive a full refund.
 
How do I add more books to an order I already submitted?
 
Simply submit a second order and then contact us at [email protected] or call 740-282-6100 as soon as possible. If gthe first order has not been shipped we will combine the orders in to a single shipment.
 
What is your return policy?
 
You can return any book within thirty (30) days of receipt and provided it is returned in the same condition as shipped you will receive a full refund for the price of the book.

What do you do with my email address?
 
It stays in our internal secure system. We do not share nor sell any email address to anyone.
 
I can't log in or create a new account.

I entered the wrong email when I signed up. How can I change it?
 
It would be best to re-register using your correct email address.
 
Correctional Facilities
 
Most institutions only allow paperback editions (no hardcover or spiral bound). When placing an order for an inmate put the inmate's first name and last name followed by the inmate's ID number in the name line of the shipping address (John Doe, 12345).  Next line put the facility name and then the address.

Which items are accepted/prohibited at prison facilities?
 
Most institutions will not allow hardcover editions. An instore purchase with proper ID will be sent at our discretion; best way to insure proper delivery is to order online.
 
Will you reimburse me if the prison refuses my order?
 
Once we receive the book back at the store you will receive a refund for the price of the book provided it is in the same condition as when originally shipped
 
 

Shipping 

What are your shipping rates / delivery times?
 
All shipments are via the United States Postal Service (USPS)
Standard U.S. – Media Mail 4 to 14 business days after shipping (may take up to 21 business days)
Expedited U.S. 2 to 6 business days after shipping
International Standard 3 to 6 weeks (may take 8 to 12 weeks due to customs delays)
If you call the store (740-282-6100) we can possibly accommodate alternate shipping methods and shortened delivery times. This usually involves an additional fee.
 
Why is it taking so long to receive my order?
 
Once we ship a book through the USPS it is out of our control. 99% of our books arrive within the arrival window and most at the earlier time shown in the arrival window. Since all of our books have a tracking number we can always determine the status and location of a book that has yet to be delivered.
 
Where do you ship your orders from?
 
Our store is located in Steubenville, Ohio (about 45 minutes West of Downtown Pittsburgh, Just across the Ohio River. We ship everything from our store.
 
Do you ship outside the United States?
 
Yes, we ship worldwide. For particularly heavy or large books we may need to collect additional shipping fees. The vast majority of books will ship for the shipping fees preloaded at the time you check out.
 
Can you change my shipping address from Domestic to International?
 
You can change your shipping address anytime by logging into the web site or at checkout.
 
Shipping Method
 
All books are shipped by USPS unless you call us to make other arrangements.
 
Tracking
 
Tracking numbers are added to every shipment.
 
APO/FPO/DPO Shipments
 
We ship to APO/FPO/DPO addresses; however the shipping times may be considerably longer than standard domestic locations.
 
Alaska, Hawaii and US Territories
 
We do ship to Alaska, Hawaii and US Territories, however standard shipping (Media Mail) can take additional time. If you desire the book more quickly we suggest you consider upgrading to expedited shipping.
 
Can I get a discount on a large order?
 
If you have a particularly large order (Greater than 10 books and/or $100.00) please call and ask the owners to inquire about a possible discount.
 
Will you reimburse me if I am charged Customs fees?
 
We do not make any concessions for Customs fees since they are unpredictable and fluctuate from country to country.
 
 

Billing 

What payment methods do you offer?
 
We accept all major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal, check and money orders.
 
Is it safe to use my credit card?
 
We use commercial grade SSL encryption (Secure Socket Layer) to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of information under our control.
 
Can I send you a check or money order instead of submitting my credit card information?
 
Yes, we accept check and money orders. The order is shipped immediately upon receipt of a money order with within 48 hours of receipt of a check.
 
Can I order an item through the mail (instead of the internet)?
 
Yes we can arrange a mail order. The best method would be to call first to make sure you have the shipping fees included and that the book(s) are taken off-line. Send your check or M.O. with the titles and book numbers you have reserved.
 
Will I get refunded for a package that was "Returned to Sender?"
 
In most cases we will contact the buyer first to make sure that the correct shipping address was used with the order. If the buyer gave the incorrect address in most cases we will reship to the correct address. The cost of the shipping and packaging will be charged, however in some cases but the owners may choose to waive additional shipping charges. If we cannot contact the buyer, then a refund for the cost of the book will be made.
 
I typed my credit card wrong and it got denied. How can I reorder the same books again?
 
Yes, just enter the correct number when you process your next order.
 
Do you charge Sales Tax?
 
At this time, only sales made to shipping addresses in Ohio will be charged sales tax. This is subject to change as new laws or regulations change.
